Katsu Rokuro: Division 13 Captain Empty
PostSubject: Katsu Rokuro: Division 13 Captain    Katsu Rokuro: Division 13 Captain EmptyThu Jul 25, 2013 1:15 am

♦[Katsu Rokuro]♦
"Don't Fear the Reaper..."

THE ENTRANCE
"'To announce your name and rank' is a custom taught to us when we learn how to fight."

Full Name: Katsu Rokuro

Gender: Male

Age: [20] {{347}}

Race: Shinigami

Job/Occupation: Captain of the 13th Division

Face Claim: Katsu Rokuro: Division 13 Captain Anime-boy-white-hair-photo-31590-jpg

THE APPEARANCE
"You may have been born ugly, but at least you may die beautifully."

Appearance: Katsu is a lean young man standing at about 6"2'. He has straight white hair which often falls to cover his eyes. He has soft, blue eyes and a small pointy nose. He wears black glasses. His shinigami outfit consists of the normal black clothing and the captain's haori. The only major difference is he cut off the sleeves on both arms. His left arm is completely bandaged up to his shoulder, while his right has tribal tattoos going up and down the arm. As for his Zanpakuto, he prefers to wear it on his left side, as his right hand/arm is his dominant side.

Distinctive Features: On his right arm he has quite a bit of ink, while his left arm is bandaged up. His Glasses are very noticable as well.

THE INVENTORY
"The curtain that falls down at the end, shall be pulled down by the blade of my sword."

Zanpakuto Name & Description: Zanpakutou Name: Karite Sokuryoku (Reaper Speed)
Sealed Zanpakutou: Like most zanpakutos, it is a simple katana whilst sealed.
Spirit Appearance: Katsu's Zanpakuto spirit looks like that of a female grim reaper. She has flowing black hair and wields a scythe greater than her: http://photos.imageevent.com/afap/wallpape...reaper-5162.jpg
Spirit Personality: She normally acts much like Katsu. She is for the most part very calm and calculating, and cares for Katsu greatly. This can all change however when Katsu uses his bankai. During bankai he loses her sanity for the most part and is very demanding. She is the main reason Katsu hasn't perfected his bankai because when using it she tries to overcome Katsu with too much power.

Shikai Release Phrase: Sprint! Karite Sokuryoku!
Shikai Appearance: Upon release, his Zanpakuto takes the shape of a scythe. It is a somewhat shorter poled scythe due to the fact that Katsu mainly one hands it, but if need be it can be used as a two-hander: http://images.wikia.com/ttff/images/9/94/Loladfsdf.jpg

Shikai Abilities:
His shikai's main ability is that it allows him to manipulate the wind. He can cause gusts, shoot blasts of air, etc. Using his scythe, he bends reiatsu around the wind in order to manipulate it. He can change the direction of the wind and even the strength of the wind. He can stop the wind in an area all together, using his reiatsu to halt all wind fronts in a small area. If he was to control the wind, he'd use his scythe as a guide. He'd bring the head of his weapon towards the direction where he wanted the wind to go for example. He has to be holding his Zanpakuto to direct/bend/control the wind.

Bankai: Bankai Release Phrase: none
Bankai Appearance: His bankai takes the form of a sword. : https://2img.net/h/i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae335/Z...ner/Sword-1.jpg
Bankai Abilities:
Katsu's bankai is quite different from his Shikai. When he releases his bankai state, he loses his previous speed bonus. What he gets is what he calls, "The left arm of the Reaper." With this, his left, bandaged arm is "replaced" with a pitch black, skeleton's arm. This allows for more powerful strikes. Along with the new appendage, his attack also gets a special new "bite" to it. Upon being slashed by his sword, the victim gets into a sick state, meaning they get woozey, get a fever, slightly weak, etc. The side effects last until the bankai is sealed (if too powerful, then I understand). As stated earlier, his bankai is primarily focused on powerful blows. He loses speed, but where he lacks in speed, he gains a great deal of strenght and focus. The major negative of his bankai is that it is still being developed, and He has problems controlling it sometimes. He sometimes takes the idea of "the reaper" too seriously in bankai, and can become very vicious, to the point of being uncontrollable.

THE PERSONA
"Don't use such strong words. It makes you seem weak."

Behavior: Katsu is a very well-balanced individual. He is a, in general, a happy person, yet he isn't too happy. He chooses to live his life by the saying, "There is a time and place for everything." He enjoys spending time with his friends when he isn't too busy. The one interesting part of his personality is his "mellow-ness." By this I mean, outside of battle, he is laid back and calm. The biggest change in his personality is during a fight. He does not smile during a fight and is in total focus. He will talk during a fight, but don't expect any witty remarks from Katsu. During fights is when he is prone to spikes in anger which can help him or hurt him during a fight. He is most susceptible to losing his temper if his opponent has hurt one of his friends, as he is very protective of his friends.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Et Cetera: Strengths: One strength of Katsu's is his acute Perception. One reason for his success in combat is because he is in a constant state of observation, making sure he knows his opponent inside and out. This is why he can usually try and adapt to most situations rather quickly. Also, the key to his fighting style is his speed. He lost a lot of sword arm strength when he injured his arm, so he spent some time developing his speed to counteract the lack of strength.

Weaknesses: His biggest weakness comes in the form of dedication to the point of stuborness. This is because once he has his mind made up, it would take a great deal of convincing to change his mind. This is due to an event that happened to him when he was a young seated officer. Another of his major weaknesses is that he is limited in his use of Kido. He is only able to pull off spells in the 30's

Goals: Katsu's number one goal had always been to attain the rank of Captain in the Gotei 13. When he accomplished this he had kinda gotten a tad lazy, and forgot the reason he wanted to become a shinigami in the first place: to never lose a fight due to weakness. His new goal is rather ambiguous. He wishes to find a new goal. He wants to find a new reason to obtain power and fight to the best of his capabilities.

Fears: His biggest fear is being consumed by his own thirst for power. He has seen first hand the graphic self-destruction it can lead to, and has this constant cautious state of mind in order to avoid succumbing to the obsession with gaining power at any cost.

THE STORY
"If history repeats itself, and moves in a circular path, then believing that whatever force is turning it is perfect, is all we can do as we move ahead. Pushed along by forces beyond our control, waiting, for the blade to be swung."

History: Katsu's story begins in the Rukongai part of the Soul Society. He was born into a family in the Junrinan District of Rukongai. He grew up with his Father, Mother, and Brother. Early life was quite simple for Katsu. He and his older brother, Junpei, were always spending time together. Whether it was running around town, or sitting at home, they were inseperable at an early age. When Katsu turned twelve, he had his first major encounter with a Shinigami. He of course knew who they were, but he never had any interaction with them. On this particular day, Katsu was bored and walking around the district when suddenly a middle aged man sprinted around a corner and ran into Katsu, pickpocketing him upon contact. Katsu was shocked and chased after him, but to no avail. As he slowed due to exhaustion, he watched as the man ran away until out of nowhere, a man with long black hair appeared right in front of the man and stopped him by grabbing him by the arm. As the man retrieved Katsu's coin sack, he walked toward him and became more visable. He was wearing a captain's haori and a scarf. Katsu heard another man come up from behind him, but this time, it was another shinigami, this one with red hair and sunglasses perched upon his head. "Jeez Captain Byakuya, you shouldn't run off like that..." the man said. At this point Byakuya had reached Katsu to return his money, and then left without saying a single word. "Wh-who is that?" asked Katsu with nervous anticipation. The red-headed shinigami gave him a strange look. "Him? That's Captain Kuchiki. You should be thankful kid..." said the shinigami as he turned to walk with his captain. As cliché as it may sound, this was the moment Katsu yearned to be a shinigami. Not for a selfless purpose like others, but in order to gain power for himself. He wanted to avoid feeling helpless as he had that day with the thief, and he wanted power to overcome that weakness.

Academy Days:
Katsu and Junpei applied to the academy as soon as they felt they were ready. Junpei applied first and got in on his first try. It wasn't the same story for Katsu. He failed the test twice, and only got in barely on the third try. It is for this purpose most of his peers looked down upon him. This only gave Katsu more motivation. He worked harder than students his age, and it is for this purpose, after only his first year of the academy, was at the top of his class. As his education went on, he only continued to succeed. In his third year of the academy, he had already discovered his Zanpakuto spirit. Everything was going good for him, but he didn't realize the effect it had on his brother. He was doing well in the academy, but had nowhere near the same success his brother had. Jealousy had replaced love in his heart, and with the newfound emotion, he devised a plan to be back on top. He was going to go after a hollow on his own. One night, he snuck out of his dorm to find a hollow. He knew it would be difficult, but he read up on it and thought it wouldn't be too difficult to bring forth a weak one. He got what he wished when a hollow appeared. He fought with it for a few minutes, and was eventually able to kill it. Just as the fight concluded, Katsu found his brother and was angered to see him out at night. "Brother! What are you doing out after curfew! Do you want to be expelled?!?" he asked. Junpei glared back at him, "It doesn't matter now! I defeated a hollow before you. Now people will actually respect me, not you!" As he said this, he didn't see that one hollow, had actually attracted several. One hollow bit his left shoulder, while the other bit his right leg; he was trapped. "JUNPEI!" shouted Katsu as he unsheathed his zanpakuto and swung it violently at one of the hollows. He was successful in destroying the one on his shoulder, but the other was more powerful. The remaining hollow got off of Junpei and faster than Katsu could react to, warped in front of him and slashed his face. Stunned by the pain, he fell to the ground and clenched his face. He thought he was done for when Junpei stabbed the hollow from behind. The hollow screamed in pain, but Junpei made a huge mistake by not going for the mask. So the hollow was able to turn around and cause a vicious wound on Junpei. Katsu was able to barely open his eyes, but when he saw his brother being mauled by the hollow, he acted quickly and gave the death blow to the infernal creature... but the damage was already done. As Katsu made it to his brother, he was close to his last breath. "Don't worry Junpei, I can hear people coming, you're gonna be ok!!!" Katsu said in a desperate voice. "N-no...I'm...n-not gonna..." Junpei whispered as he coughed some blood. "Katsu...I'm so sorry. I... just wanted to show you...that your older brother was able to... protect you..." As he finished the sentence, he smiled and closed his eyes; he was gone. Katsu didn't know how to react. He couldn't scream. As tears streamed down his face, he was taken back to the Academy by his instructors.

Post-Academy:
The following year went by in a flash. Despite the incident with his brother, he continued his success, and was able to graduate from the academy after five years, a year ahead of schedule. Right out of the academy, many shinigami knew of him and had high expectation, but he didn't care. He was still distraught that he had caused his brother's death. Upon being assigned to a division, he requested the 9th division. He asked for that because it was the one division he knew he would not have to fight on a daily basis for. Ever since the incident, he detested fighting. It only reminded him of his first important fight, so he thought if could avoid it he could. Several decades went by, and he had reached the 4th seat of his division. He was living a normal life, but at this point he felt something was wrong. He felt he had no purpose, but one reminder would change that.

He was spending some time with some other shinigami, when an un-seated shinigami approached him. In a very smug and condescending tone, he looked at Katsu and said “Hey, how are you ranked when you have yet to prove yourself! I bet I could take you down!” The hot-headed shinigami drew his zanpakuto and charged Katsu head on. He sighed and dodged the intitial strike with complete ease. The enraged shinigami struck wildly at him with his sword and yet could not connect on a single hit. Katsu was in no mood and hadn’t even unsheathed his zanpakuto. This arrogance of course would bite him in the ass, when crazy youngster finally hit the jackpot. Katsu was so out of it that he had almost allowed him to slice his head open, but at the last second moved. His left arm instead received the blow. The damage was severe, and after it was all said and done, the nerves and several tendons could not be healed. Katsu got what he deserved for his arrogance.

At this point he started to reflect more on his life. He thought of his brother and what he gave up in order to ensure Katsu’s own survival. He considered the fact that he had been wasting his talent just sitting in the barracks doing paperwork. It was at this moment he decided he needed a change. He remembered that the main reason he became a shinigami. He didn’t care about the strength of others; the only thing he could control was gaining his own strength.

After rehabbing his left arm for a couple of years, he restarted a much more rigorous training regimen. Due to his left arm having significantly less impact in fighting, he traded strength for more speed in combat. He first set out to improve his shikai. Since his shikai was a scythe, he had only known one way to use it, which was as a two-handed weapon. With his left arm being a lot less prominent in this new fighting style he was trying to adapt to, he had decided to change up how one would traditionally wield a scythe.  He started this process by only wielding the weapon with his right hand. He had asked some of the unseated officers in his division to help him attain this task. He started with one on one training, then two on two, and with 5 years of training, he was able to not only wield the weapon with only his right arm, but he was also able to take on 4 shinigami at once (albeit they were unseated warriors). He decided that it was time to test his skills against actual seated officers. This proved to be a more difficult challenge, as he barely managed to beat a 4th seat, and was dominated by a vice-captain. He dedicated himself to training, this time alone. After 4 more years of training, he challenged the vice-captain of his division once more, this time being the victor. He was promoted because of his resolve and newfound strength, but this was not Katsu's only goal. He felt that upon reaching this position, it was time to attempt to achieve Bankai.

He set out alone into a more isolated part of the Soul Society to communicate with his Zanpakuto spirit. He stabbed his sword into the ground, kneeled, touched it, and closed his eyes. In a matter of moments, his mind was melded with the spirit of his sword, Karite Sokuryoku. As he opened his eyes, he saw before him a dark place, yet comforting, and somewhat warm. Before him was a young girl wielding a scythe which was bigger than herself. "Ahhhh, welcome back Katsu!" She said in a playful manner. Katsu knew thought that there was nothing playful going on inside her head. "Good to see you too," Katsu responded with in a sarcastic tone. He was there for one thing, and he was determined to get it. He stood up and glared at her. "I think you know what I want, and you're gonna help me get it." He said in with fortitude in his voice. Her smile slowly turned into a somber look. "I know… I just wanted to enjoy seeing you before what happens next…" As she spoke those words, her scythe slowly wrapped itself around her left arm and with a black flash and a bang, her arm had transformed into a skeletal arm. That's not the only thing that had changed, as her eyes had began to emit a red glow. "I can't control this form for long, which is something you too shall learn. I hope you've become a fast learner…" she said in creepy, almost demon-like voice. He thought he was ready for what was coming next, but when he blinked, she was gone. He felt a presence to his right, but the second he turned he felt a devastating pain. As he looked down to his stomach, he saw a black hand had burst through him. "Damn…. One punch being that strong…." Katsu grunted. He didn't let it get to him, as brought his sword down in an attempt to cut off the hand. The blade shattered upon impact, and before he knew it, she had disappeared again. Katsu knew he had to figure something out, but what? He felt the presence again, but this time he predicted it, he saw her to his left, and also saw her boney fist coming in for another attack. He closed his eyes and thought to himself briefly: She is a part of your power, show her you're not gonna just lay down and die. He opened his eyes and brought back his weakened left arm for a punch. When their blows met, a cracking noise was made. The darkness began to lighten making the area they were in seem less like night and more like dawn. The two combatants were blown away from their respective attacks. Karite Sokuryoku looked down only to find small cracks in the knuckles of her arm. She then looked to her opponent and smiled. Katsu was breathing heavily, glad that he deflected the hit, but he still didn't know how. That is until he looked down to realize that his own left arm was different. The bandages had burned away, and now his arm reflected that of his Zanpakuto's: a black skeletal arm. But he noticed he had something she didn't: a blade. In his hands was now a blade, which looked like several smaller scythes had come together to form it. It was a bit heavy, but he could feel a new power pulsing out of it. It was warm and inviting, yet intimidating and fearsome. "That's your bankai. I can tell you can feel just how powerful it can be. This is where your actual training starts…" She lunged straight for him, using her arm as her weapon. He blocked the attack easily. He responded with a powerful two-handed strike. She attemped to block with her forearm, but the blade cut through it like it was a piece of paper. He saw the raw power and did something in battle which he didn't like doing: he smiled. He began laughing at the new power. With each slash on his Zanpakuto's spirit, he became more and more insane. The power was taking over, and it almost took him over, until he stopped, fell to his knees and dropped his blade. The would that she had inflicted on him in the beginning of the battle began to emit a purple glow, and in a matter of seconds,  Katsu was chained up and his bankai faded away. In this state, Katsu was full of rage and was thrashing around to break free from bondage.  Karite, who had taken quite the beating, was regenerating fast as she walked toward Katsu and put her hand on his head to calm him. His eyes closed, and he slept.

When he finally came to, he was still in his Zanpakuto's spirit world. "Whoa…" he said as he staggered to his feet. He looked to see that Karite was standing there waiting for him. "That's what I meant toward the beginning of our fight. The power you possess is great, but can quickly corrupt you. That's why I dare not use the blade, in order to stay in control while training you. That's why when I got that first hit on you I placed a spell of sorts within you to contain you if you got out of hand." She walked toward him and put her hand on his shoulder. "As a team, we must get through this. But it will take time…" He nodded and started stretching his right arm. He then backed up a bit as his left arm once again took it's skeletal form. "I'm ready for round two."

After 17 years of intense training, Katsu finally emerged from his Zanpakuto's spirit world to have finally obtained his bankai. While unrefined, he at least had it ready for combat. He returned to the Gotei 13 with his newfound powers with one thing on his mind: The spot of Captain. He trained with several seated officers for a couple years before finally being ready to "try-out" for the Captaincy. By showing his skills and a vacancy in the 13th Division, Katsu Rokuro had become a captain, and was ready to prove his worth in defending the Gotei as well as the Soul Society.

Your history isn't going to cut it as for your character obtaining Bankai. Give me more detail as to how and when he obtained that weapon.

On the topic of powers, you actually haven't got a section for your Shikai Ability. Please add one and we'll continue from there.

As he's not on, I'll take over for Ichigenka for now.

It seems as if you went from having no ability, to having three. Not only that, but there's not really any detail as to what it does. Also, all that you have put there for ability are techniques. We're liking for a general idea as to what your ability is. Is it speed? Or maybe wind? Not specific things you can do, but a general idea. If you need help figuring it out, don't be afraid to ask for it, I'm always happy to help with abilities.

That's better, but try and...Flesh it out more. Do you move it with your reiatsu? Do you use your hands to control it. our your mind? Can you strengthen it, make it solid, make it faster, shooter, take it away all together? What? If you need examples of fleshing it out, look at the approved characters.

Again, you're adding techniques here. We don't want those, we're looking for a generalized ability. Again, I point you towards the approved applications for inspiration.

I'd like to point out that the first and third picture links in your Zanpakuto Section don't redirect to anywhere.

Everything looks good now, I reckon. So, therefore I'll approve you for Captain of the Thirteenth Division, with Captain Class Tier and 240 Stat Points and 23 Skill Points.

The writing in the application is good, but in some places it doesn't flow as well as it could. It's nothing that impedes Approval, so I'll approve you.
